Why We Exist
Libraries For All began with an urgent realization: many readers with significant disabilities were being left behind by traditional books and library programs.
As a school librarian, our founder Courtney Walker saw firsthand how students with cognitive, physical, and sensory disabilities often had unequal access to books and library programming. In 2019, she began adapting books for her own students— laminating, rebinding, and adding sensory elements to make reading more engaging and accessible.
What started as a few books quickly grew into a full adapted book library collection at her school — the first of its kind. The response from students, families, and educators was overwhelming, and it sparked something bigger.
Today, Libraries For All exists to carry that vision forward: to reimagine what literacy access can look like and ensure every reader regardless of ability has the chance to experience joy, dignity, and connection through books.
