About This Guide
This free guide provides a step-by-step guide for the creation of an adapted book library collection for libraries of all types and levels.
The guide includes all steps of the process, including securing funding, leading adapting workshops with volunteers, best practices for circulation, and how to properly use adapted books to bridge the gap in library accessibility.
Adapted books are published books that have been modified for increased durability and then enhanced with sensory elements. These modifications create sensory connections to the story and provide comfort when handling the books, ensuring accessibility of popular literature and library resources for this underserved population.
This project builds on the work and research I have already done in developing an adapted book library collection for my former school library, my professional development book on serving patrons with significant disabilities and adapted book collections, and my work through Libraries For All.
